Officer Profile: 1st Lt. Brenda E. Threatt

Civilian Occupation: South Los Angeles area representative for Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa.

CSMR Duties: Chaplain assisting youth at the Sunburst Youth Academy at the Joint Forces Training Base, Los Alamitos.

Background: Born and raised in Los Angeles.

Education: Majored in psychology at California State University, Los Angeles and theology at San Francisco Theological Seminary.

Civilian background: An ordained minister in the African Methodist Church, served as executive pastor for over 10 years.

Other CSMR activities and duties: Served in SRPs (Soldier Readiness Programs), casualty notices, funerals, counseling, suicide prevention, and a wedding.

Also of interest: Designed the official “911” license plate for the State of California.

Why did she join the CSMR?: “The California State Military Reserve is the continuation of the gratitude I feel for my country and those who have lived and died to protect us.”

What does she like most about the CSMR?: “I like the discipline that frames the military system, but the dedication to our God and country is the embodiment of all that I do, and that is ministry.”
