I have always wondered why we celebrate New Year’s as a closure of the Old and the beginnings of the New? We do in one sense end a calendar year and start a new physical year. We also literally leave the past behind with all its issues both good and bad. Some of us make resolutions to do better in the New Year and some of us do not (me included).
Whatever we believe about the New Years, I want to share with you my 3 Cents, not 2 Cents. Ok, so I got it wrong.
Life is a continuing progression from one moment to the next. It is filled with all the memories, hopes, dreams and interactions with others and yes a few mistakes, trials and some times just plain old bad times.
No matter what happens though, I have always found strength in knowing I wasn’t alone in this journey. I like this quote in “Psa 118:24: This is the day that the LORD has made; let’s rejoice and be glad in it.” It has always reminded me of the fact I am not alone.
I encourage each of you, no matter what your beliefs or faith background, to see the New Year both as a New Beginning and as a Continuation of Life in Progress. Build upon the Old, evaluate it and incorporate lessons learned into the New. Find a quote that fits who you are and that will give you courage, strength and hope as you journey into the New Year. And remember you are not alone – the Soldiers and Airman of the California State Military Reserve travel on that journey with you.
“…It is a proud privilege to be a soldier – a good soldier … [with] discipline, self-respect, pride in his unit and his country, a high sense of duty and obligation to comrades and to his superiors, and a self-confidence born of demonstrated ability.”― George S. Patton Jr.
