Principle

Loyalty is bearing true faith and allegiance to the US Constitution, the Army/CSMR, your unit, and other soldiers. In the Army/CSMR, we need to be able to trust one another; we need to know we can count on someone to remain true to the United States and our unit. We can easily take that same value and apply it to our relationships. In terms of the Moral aspect, loyalty is bearing true faith and allegiance to your spouse, girlfriend, family and friends.

OBSERVATION

Loyalty

Loyalty is faithfulness or a devotion to a person, country, group, or cause. All of us as soldiers commit to the basic principle of “Bearing True Faith and Allegiance.”

In my own faith and allegiance to God is this simple truth in which I follow: Love God with all my heart, mind, soul and strength and Love my neighbor as myself. (Matthew 22:36-40). By doing so it gives me the foundation which directs me in all other areas in which I must remain loyal, whether it is people, country, or causes.

Thoughts to Ponder

1. How do you define Loyalty, both in word and action?
2. What is a Simple truth that is your foundation for Loyalty?
3. Read the statement shown below given by President Dwight D. Eisenhower. Then write what you think he meant.

“Here in America we are descended in blood and in spirit from revolutionists and rebels – men and women who dare to dissent from accepted doctrine. As their heirs, may we never confuse honest dissent with disloyal subversion.”
